What BOINC and Team USA are All About

What is BOINC?

BOINC is the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing. The University of Southern California at Berkeley was the creator of SETI@home, the original distributed computing project. Based on years of experience with that project, the technical gurus at Berkeley devised an improved system: one that not only reduces the risk of scientific fraud, but which is flexible enough to work on any distributed computing project for which someone writes a suitable calculation module. The volunteer downloads the BOINC client, and attaches it to whatever project or projects said volunteer finds most appealing.

What is Team USA?

One of the long-standing traditions of distributed computing projects is the formation of teams. Not just a tradition, a little healthy competition encourages active participation, to the general gain of the project.

Team USA was created to show that we still have American pride and that good old American know-how is still a reality. If you're a patriotic American, this is the team to join. If you're not an American at all, you're still welcome. This has always been a country with open arms.
